Area Information

"Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul." ~ John Muir
Here is some information about our local area including a list of some of the local wildlife and available activities. You will have some free time on Friday and Saturday (approximately 4 hours each day). Drive time to some of the local attractions, precludes participating during the boot camp (due to limited free time). However, you can come early or extend your stay to take advantage of some of the outdoor activities in the area. Southwestern Colorado has some amazing scenery and outdoor experiences to help you "unplug from the matrix". Feel free to call us with any questions you might have.

The Ranch

Picture
The ranch is located at 7,500 feet elevation just on the north end of the Archuleta Mesa and just west of the continental divide.  The landscape is a mixture of Sagebrush, Juniper, Gamble Oaks, and Ponderosa Pines.  There are several spots on the ranch that offer great views of the surrounding San Juan Mountains - a perfect place to rest and commune with God.  For information about the weather, use the link below.

Wildlife

You'll find diverse wildlife in the area. This section is meant to both inform you and provide advanced notice as you consider registering. Mule Deer, Elk, Bears and Mountain Lions have all been seen on or near the property. Mountain lion and bear sightings are rare but do occur. Bear encounters have been benign and no mountain lion encounters have occurred - only sightings. There are also rattlesnakes on the ranch along with tons of jack rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, and a few porcupines. Because it's a working cattle ranch, there are cows that free-roam the property as well. The boot camp is held in a fenced-in area so the cows won't have access to the camp site. Feel free to do your own research on the local wildlife as this section is only provided to give you some BASIC information. Feel free to call with any questions too.

Things To Do

As men, we like to plan. That said, the first piece of advice we offer is to invite Jesus into your decision making process. See what He wants you to do. He may just want you to REST.

On The Ranch

Here are some things you can do without leaving the ranch:
  • Rest
  • Hike (80 acres of hills and valleys)
  • Occasionally we’ll have projects to do. We can assemble a group to do “ranch work” if desired
  • Fly/learn to fly RC aircraft
  • Bird watch
  • Stargazing (we have a great telescope)
  • Campfires (we’ll have one every night as long as fire restrictions allow)

Off The Ranch

These are some of the activities available off the ranch:
  • Hiking
  • Wildlife Park
  • Fishing
  • Mountain Biking
  • White Water Rafting/Tubing (before/after BASIC)
  • ATV Tours (before/after BASIC)
  • Hot Springs
  • So much more!
There is a lot to do here so feel free to start your own research by clicking below.
